When star shortstop Fernando Tatis Jr. went down with a wrist injury and was given several weeks of rest and rehab, the San Diego Padres became extremely worried.

They needed someone to stand up and take over the team in Tatis’ absence: someone whose performance exceeded expectations and allowed them to keep up with the Los Angeles Dodgers and the San Francisco Giants.

Some people believed that person wasn’t on the roster, but it is, and his name is Manny Machado.

Not only has Machado stepped up big-time with Tatis on the shelf, but he has taken things up a notch: he is, as of Monday afternoon, the National League’s most valuable and impactful player according to Wins Above Replacement, or WAR.

WAR is an assessment of a player’s contributions using his offensive, defensive, and baserunning performance.

“2022 NL Batting WAR Leaders: Manny Machado (2.6). Nolan Arenado (2.2). Tommy Edman (2.0). Jazz Chisholm Jr. (1.7),” Baseball Reference tweeted.

A Fantastic All-Around Player

Not only is Machado an incredible offensive performer, but he is also widely recognized as one of the best defenders at third base in all MLB.

That surely helps his WAR output.

With the bat in his hands, he has been a difference-maker.

He is slashing .385/.460/.642 with seven home runs, seven doubles, 26 runs scored, and 21 RBI.

The Padres have gotten good offensive contributions all around, but none of them have had such a high impact on the team’s recent success as Machado.

When Tatis returns, pitchers will actually have to worry about two MVP-caliber hitters instead of one, plus a wide array of solid hitters.

For now, Machado is carrying the team, and he is doing a terrific job.

Real Madrid vs Real Betis Prediction and Betting Tips – 22nd May 2022

Published

on

Real Madrid and Real Betis will draw the curtain on their 2021-22 La Liga campaign when they square off at the Santiago Bernabeu on Sunday.

Los Verdiblancos head into the game on a two-match winning streak and will aim to make it three victories on the trot for the first time since February.

Real Madrid had to settle for a share of the spoils last Sunday as they were held to a 1-1 draw by Cadiz at the Estadio Nuevo Mirandilla.

The La Liga champions will now return to home turf, where they are currently on a three-game winning streak, scoring 13 goals and conceding just one in that time.

With a highly-anticipated Champions League final against Liverpool on the horizon, victory on Sunday could set the tone for that encounter as they look to claim a record-extending 14th title.

Meanwhile, Real Betis maintained their fine run of results as they claimed a comfortable 2-0 win over Granada on home turf.

This followed a 3-0 victory at Valencia on May 10 which saw their four-game winless run in La Liga come to an end.

Real Betis are now eyeing a third consecutive win in a bid to secure a place in next season’s Champions League, as they sit three points off fourth-placed Sevilla in the league standings.

Real Madrid vs Real Betis Head-To-Head and Key Numbers

  • With 24 wins from the last 42 meetings between the sides, Real Madrid boast a superior record in the history of this fixture.
  • Real Betis have picked up seven wins in that time, while the honors have been shared on 11 different occasions.
  • Real Betis are unbeaten in each of their last four visits to the Santiago Bernabeu, picking up two wins and two draws since a 2-1 defeat back in 2017.
  • Real Betis head into the weekend unbeaten in each of their last six games on the road, picking up two wins and four draws in that time.
  • Real Madrid have won each of their last three home games, stretching back to a 3-2 loss against Chelsea in the Champions League quarter-finals back in April

Real Madrid vs Real Betis Prediction

With the league already wrapped up, Carlo Ancelotti could rest a few key players ahead of their Champions League final against Liverpool. While Real Betis have their sights on a top-four finish, we predict the Galacticos will do just enough to force a share of the spoils.

Prediction: Real Madrid 1-1 Real Betis

Rivals.com – Rivals100 DE Vic Burley talks top schools ahead of summer visits

Published

on

Vic Burley has a busy summer ahead.

The recruiting process is winding down for one of the most coveted defensive ends in the 2023 class. The Rivals100 prospect has official visits set to Tennessee (end of May), Michigan State (June 3-5), Georgia (June 10-12), and Ohio State (June 24-26). Burley will also take an official visit to Clemson for a game this fall.

On Georgia: “We really want you, that’s been their main message. They’re always contacting me saying hey, we care about you, we want you. They just ask about what’s going on in a normal day, stuff like that. I probably talk to them every day”.

On Tennessee: “I talk to them probably four times a week. (Their message is) we want you here. You’ll be a special part of this team that we can really build around you.”

On Clemson: “Their message is really, D-line U. If you want to be developed, you come here. Now they’re kind of comparing me to Myles Murphy a little bit. A little bit more versatile, down the line.”

On Ohio State: “Just that legacy they have of producing really good defensive linemen. Nick Bosa, Joey Bosa, Chase Young to name a few. It just really stands out.”

On when he wants to commit: “Probably pretty early in the season.”

Georgia, Tennessee, and Clemson have long appeared to be the frontrunners in Burley’s recruitment. That still seems to be the case. A program to watch, however, is Ohio State. The Buckeyes’ tradition of sending top pass rushers to the NFL appeals to Burley, and he feels he could fit well in Ohio State’s defense as a 4-3 defensive end.
